CLAMP the mangakas

Sora- CLAMP is the greatest. Read everything by them now. The end. *saying with a straight face*

Blue Rose- You have to be a little more specific than that, Sora. Let's start at the beginning. Who is CLAMP?

Sora- CLAMP started out as a 12 person doujinshi (fan comics) team which dwindled to four members soon after they were officially published. These four women are Mokona Appapa, Mick Nekoi, Nanase Okawa, and Satsuki Igarashi. Mokona and Mick are the main artists. Mokona has the style most associated with CLAMP, especially the big sparkly eyes, like in Rayearth and X. Mick does the quieter more romantic manga like Wish and Suki. Nanase and Satsuki do most of the writing and omake (extra) stuff.

Blue Rose- Ok. Now on to the next question.

Sora- What kind of stories do they write?

Blue Rose- May I answer this one?

Sora- You may. *nods royally*

Blue Rose- Thank you. *nods in response* CLAMP has a very diverse spectrum of stories ranging from the VERY gory X to the fluffy feel good Wish to the really cutesy Card Captor Sakura... *Sora jumping up and down* Yes, Sora?

Sora- Don't forget the echi shonen romance Chobits.

Blue Rose- Oh yes. Who could forget that? But we digress. They have such a wide variety of stories that almost everyone can be pleased.

Sora- I must add here that their stories are always so original and well written.

Blue Rose- I must agree. And now. The moment you've all been waiting for... the list of all CLAMP's works to date:

RGVeda- neither of us have read this, but it's supposed to be about Hindu mythology. `8 volumes

Man of Many Faces- again, neither of us have read it. It is a two volume series about a boy thief. It seems like a rather silly story.

Tokyo Babylon- What can we say, it's rather weird. BR- This is not one of my favorites by them. The art is a little "CLAMP old school", but still pretty. S- For me it's not great, but it's not terrible either. 8 volumes, still running

X- S- It's the goriest shoji manga ever written. The End. BR- Blood, Gore and Body parts OH MY! But the bishounen, the bishounen! Oh the choices I must make. The end of the world never looked so hopeless (or so devastatingly handsome ^_^). Be prepared for many character killings. 18 volumes, paused

Magic Knight Rayearth- BR- The first three books are kind of sad, and a teensy bit confusing if you're one of those people who like figuring out the end of the story before you get there. The ending of the third book was Really Sad and I almost didn't read the last three, but then I decided I had to finish it and I read them and it was so worth it. I love happy endings. (it was a weird but mostly happy ending) S- The first part of the series is Clamp's take on the girl transported to another world and the second part is like a mecha battle thingy. BR- And might I add that CLAMP blends them together almost flawlessly. 6 volumes, Fin

CLAMP School Detectives- S- One of CLAMP's sillier works. It's one of my least favorite. The humor just doesn't work for me. BR- I've only read about one book and let me just say one thing: The boys look like girls and what is with those short shorts? *shudders at the thought* They are in desperate need of some fashion guidance. S- You know, Omi from Wies Kruez would fit in so well there; he's like their long lost brother. *cracking up over that* ^_^ BR- Yeah he probably graduated from school there and that's where he got all the shorts from. *both of us laughing hysterically* 3 volumes, Fin

CLAMP School Defenders- the only thing we know about this one is that it takes place on the CLAMP School campus. 2 volumes, Fin

The Legend of Chun Hyang- it looks like a warrior princess adventure story. 1 volume, Fin

Myukichan in Wonderland- let's just say it's our least favorite and leave it at that. 1 volume (thank God), Fin

Shirahime-Syo- it is one volume of short stories all relating to the snow princess. BR-Love the artwork. S- I'd like to say that Shirahime was really, really boring and kinda pointless. BR- Hey! I like a little fluff now and again. S- That's what Wish is for.

Card Captor Sakura- it's a magical girl story that breaks the mold in almost every way. *We must here note that CLAMP is very fond of putting strange and interesting relationships in their stories.* This story, though dealing with heavy issues, still remains cutesy and... hmm, positive? wholesome? What's that word. *it's gonna bug me till the end of my days. (sigh) Oh well.* For more on this see Sora's manga reviews. 12 volumes, Fin
note: Tokyopop put it into two series because they're stupid. =p

Clover- It's a story about special children who were manipulated by the government and labeled clovers with varying levels of power according to how many leaves they have. We both agree that it's one of the saddest manga we've ever read. One of CLAMP's most serious works. 4 volumes, unfinished

Angelic Layer- This is one of CLAMP's silliest stories, but even though it's very silly, it still has an engaging story line. 5 volumes, Fin

Chobits- Arguably CLAMP's most echi work, it's a very romantic story about a very cute AI finding that special someone just for her. 8 volumes, Fin

Suki- this is CLAMP's most down to earth story yet. It's about a girl who likes her mysterious teacher. 3 volumes, Fin

Go Ho Drug- It's about two psychic boys who live and work in a drug store. (with lots of weird side jobs) 3 volumes, paused

Tsubasa- CLAMP's crossover work, the main characters are from CCS in an alternate world. Something tragic happens (of course) which leads them to traverse other dimensions and meet other famous CLAMP characters. 10 volumes, still running

xxxholic- This... is crazy good. It's funny, mysterious, crazy, spooky, magical, and always stylish. There's really no explaining it, but I'll try. This guy sees ghosts and demons and he winds up at this witch's house. She says she can get rid of his seeing ghosts but he has to pay for it by cooking and cleaning for her and helping her with her jobs. It's really some wild and crazy adventures. You just have to read it for yourself. S- Don't you think the art style is kinda Big-O meets One Piece? BR- *rolling on floor laughing* Yes! Totally! That is so true! *cracking to pieces* 10 volumes, still running

Before we leave the room of CLAMP we must her note: CLAMP loves to put hidden crossovers and references throughout their stories which is another one of the reasons why they are some of the best manga-kas around.
